Starbucks Aficionados: Do You Pay Their High Prices Despite Plunging Costs of Coffee Beans?

A report says the coffeehouse chain can thank consumer ignorance for its most profitable quarter ever.

According to a report by DailyFinance, Starbucks (SBUX) reported its most profitable quarter ever — ever — last month, despite the plunging prices of coffee beans.  The report says that companies behind such big-name grocery store packaged coffee brands such as Maxwell House, Folgers and Dunkin' Donuts are responding to the decrease in cost of coffee beans by lowering prices regularly and passing the savings on to consumers. "Meanwhile, Starbucks has stuck firmly to its sticker price, refusing to follow the market down, or share its good fortune with its customers," the report reads. In Wake of Recall, Starbucks Says Safety of 'Utmost Importance'

The Washington-based Starbucks Corporation issued a statement in response to a food recall prompted by a Gwinnett County manufacturer.

The following is a statement from Starbucks Corporation regarding this week's food recall: "As previously communicated, on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, we learned that Flying Food Group, LLC, in Lawrenceville, Ga., one of our suppliers, recalled ready-to-eat chicken wraps and plates delivered to Starbucks retail stores in Alabama and Georgia due to potential health concerns.   On July 26, 2011, we were informed by Flying Food Group that, at the request of the USDA, they expanded the recall to additional products including two Starbucks products, the Salami and Cheese Bistro Box and the Chicken Lettuce Wraps Bistro Box. On July 27, at the request of the FDA, Flying Food Group further expanded the recall to all products for all of their customers…
