Photo Gallery: Show Us Your View of Stone Mountain!

The popular destination can be seen from all over Gwinnett County.

If you've ever been to Stone Mountain, you know just how much of Atlanta you can see from the top - 60 miles out on a clear day! It's a breathtaking sight, but did you know that the mountain is visible in some pretty surprising places around Gwinnett? The large granite protrusion is visible from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, a number of apartment homes in Buckhead, Memorial Drive, and of course many backroads all over Gwinnett County. For many of us, it's the landmark we see driving down Highway 78 that tells us we're almost home.  Take a minute, snap a photo of your view of the mountain and share it with us, with a caption that includes your location.

Bites Nearby: Artisan Restaurant

Patch's restaurant pick of the week is a place with European and American cuisine influences.

Each week, Patch picks a restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here is this week's choice: Artisan Restaurant Located in the heart of Stone Mountain Village, Artisan is a restaurant that specializes in European and American cuisine. With the motto “a world of flavors the whole family can enjoy,” Artisan believes that healthy food should also be good. With its café style tables and chairs and glass display of confectionaries this is a spot that has a bit of style but still manages to be inviting. In addition to its aesthetic pleasures, Artisan serves an array of budget-friendly lunch and dinner items, with house specialties including Mediterranean Pita Pizza, Mango Salsa Tilapia over rice, Timpano Rotini and …

Great Escape

Great Escape: Hike Up Stone Mountain

Take back personal time and clear your mind at Stone Mountain Park this weekend. It's just minutes away from home.

Did you resolve to exercise more this year? Has this resolution moved to the bottom of your never ending to-do-list? Take back personal time this weekend and find renewed peace of mind.  Promising to exercise more at home seems futile as it always gets usurped by that to-do list. The great news is that we live very close to one of the greatest outdoor wonders in the South- Stone Mountain Park. I challenge you to hike up the 1.3-mile walking trail this weekend for your escape. Arm yourself with only a bottle of water. As you hike the rocky terrain, you will find that you must concentrate and choose a safe path. Allow yourself to hear the birds, laugh at passing stories, and smile at children looking for animals. As you push toward the top, …

Memphis Dog Gets Innovative Stem Cell Therapy in Stone Mountain

Sam was a champion show dog. Now, he's making history by undergoing stem cell therapy, a procedure that can help relieve the pain of arthritis.

Sam has always been a lucky dog, and soon he will be famous to boot. The 12-year-old border collie, a champion show dog from Memphis, was in nearby Stone Mountain Tuesday, receiving the first—but certainly not the last— same-day stem cell therapy in Georgia, according to the vets who are treating him. His owner, Pam Hays, and the veterinarians at Loving Touch Animal Center hope the procedure will help reduce the inflammation and pain Sam suffers because of arthritis. Loving Touch is located along the Highway 78 corridor, not too from the Lilburn/Snellville area.  Dr. Kevin Brantly at Loving Touch has great hopes that stem cell therapy can be used in the future to treat not just arthritis in dogs. “There’s quite a list of other things that …

Stone Mountain to Host Annual MLK Event

Area bands, local and state leaders will take part in the event.

Stone Mountain's ninth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Rally will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Stone Mountain Village. The event will be a mix of fun and entertainment by local high school bands, but also a tribute to the civil rights leader and for what he stood. “It really shows unity, and it’s also a history lesson for our children,” said Sarah Copelin-Wood, event coordinator and DeKalb County board of education member. Copelin-Wood expects at least 900 people will attend. Parade Grand marshals are Congressman Henry “Hank” Johnson and the Rev. Dr. T. Nathaniel Hercules, pastor of St. Paul AME Worship Center in Lithonia. Headliners include Stone Mountain Mayor Patricia Wheeler, Ramona Tyson, interim superintendent of …
