Some Reassurance on Why the World Won't End Today

Ben Cathey, pastor of the Orchard Church in Loganville gives his prediction on whether or not the world will end on the Dec. 21, 2012 Doomsday prediction.

So will the world end right before Christmas? The Mayan’s said so!  This one is for real y’all!  The world is going to end today.  This one was not predicted by some crazy preacher or wannabe prophet seeking attention, fame, or wealth.  No, this one was predicted by something a lot less crazy than that.  The Mayan calendar is ending today.  It’s serious.  NBC news reports that over 33 schools in Michigan’s Lapeer Community have closed two days early for Christmas break because of doomsday fears, the fresh memory of the tragedy in Newtown, CT, and rampant local twitter posts like “Friday would be a great day to go out with a bang!”  How sad, how crazy!  I have to admit that sometimes it does feel like the world is coming to an end.  We …

Is December 21, 2012 the End of the World? NASA Says No

Find out what the experts are saying about the Dec. 21, 2012, Doomsday prophesies, the end of the Mayan calendar and their potential impact on the entire world.

Don’t make any rash decisions: Experts say 12/21/12 is going to be just another typical winter solstice. Killer solar flares aren’t expected. Another planet isn’t on a collision course with ours. And the Mayan “long count calendar” ending on this date has no real significance — they had to end it somewhere! What is All the Fuss About? There are a number of theories and predictions that call for earth’s demise on Dec. 21, 2012. They include: What are the Experts Saying? The intrigue created by multiple end-of-the-world predictions has made many scholars and even NASA stand up to make statements debunking the claims. From professors at Tampa Bay’s own New College to the scientific minds at NASA, they’re all saying the same thing: Go ahead …

End of the World: Is the Apocalypse Really Coming on Dec. 21?

The Mayans may or may not have predicted the apocalypse will occur on Dec. 21 -- just less than two weeks from now. Do you buy it?

Do you expect the world to end on Dec. 21, 2012? As the day draws near, NASA is getting in on the action. The agency created a page on its website devoted to debunking the Mayan apocalypse idea—not least because the Mayans never predicted any such thing. The date is simply the end of one time period that simply starts over. “Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012,” NASA wrote. But maybe they're just fun-haters: there are a number of parties planned for Dec. 20 or 21 this year, just in case the Earth explodes, or zombies run amok. With the "long count" calendar of the Ancient Mayans coming to an end that day, some people are a little…

I think according to archaeologist every 3000 to 4000 years something big has happened to earth. can you explain the wooly mammoths that was found in Fairbanks Alaska with green grass and its stomach, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if it still green then it was frozen very quickly. I think I could give you a lot more information but you have to get your head out of the sand…   more ›

What’s the 4-1-1 on 11/11/11?

End of the world and a new Droid, all in one special day.

Today is 11/11/11. What makes this day special? There is just an itsy bitsy little chance it could mark the end of the world. At least, that is part of the premise of the movie coming out, 11-11-11.If you have further interest about whether Friday is when the world says, “All done!” you can join this Facebook group, “11/11/11, End of the World?” It’s a sort of fun marketing opportunity for techies. Verizon stores will open later than usual Friday—at 11:11 a.m. to release the new Droid Razr. And no, the sticker price is not $111.11. It’s $299.99. Twin girls from Wisconsin will celebrate their 11th birthday, and it will make national news, according to The Washington Post. It’s Veteran’s Day, and, in all seriousness, an important time to …
