Interest in Special Election for Lasseter's Seat

Two candidates already have qualified for the regular District 1 vote.

A special election will be held to fill the unexpired term of departed Commissioner Shirley Lasseter, and, there are already people -- who qualified to run for Lasseter's seat in the upcoming July primary -- who want to be a part of that special election. Gwinnett Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash told WSB that a special election will be held, but she does not know when the election will be held. However, it likely will not be before the July 31 primary. The term expires Dec. 31. Suwanee accountant Laurie McClain said Sunday that she intends to qualify for the special voting for District 1, and former Suwanee City Council member Jace Brooks indicated strong interest in doing so, as well.
