Gwinnett County Public Schools announces names of South Gwinnett High School's 2012-2013 valedictorian and salutatorian.
Gwinnett County Public Schools has released the names of the 2012-2013 valedictorian and salutatorian from South Gwinnet High School. The title of valedictorian is normally given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA. Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology is ranked No. 3 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, while Snellville's Brookwood High did not make the list.

There are nine such high schools in Gwinnett County Public Schools, according to the recent rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The data was released today, April 23. On a furlough day at a Gwinnett County public school, local leaders and teachers are coming together to highlight the impact of reduced funding for public education and to demand that Congress stop sequestration immediately.
Local leaders and teachers, organized by Georgia Fair Share, will gather to speak out against across the board cuts to vital programs, like K-12 education and Head Start, particularly discussing how cuts will impact Georgia families. Speakers will call on Rep. Woodall to repeal the Sequester by eliminating massive corporate tax loopholes, like those that cost Georgia $569 million in tax revenue last year, according to organizer Jason Pfeifle. Louis Williams, South Gwinnett alumni, has been inducted into the 2013 Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame.
The six inductees into the 2013 Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame include Louis Williams, a graduate of South Gwinnett High School. Williams, who now lives in Atlanta, plays for the Atlanta Hawks. Some of the accomplishments that earned Williams his 2013 induction into the Gwinnett Hall of Fame included his current role as a member of the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Williams played at Snellville's South Gwinnett High School under Roger Fleetwood, where he was a four-time All-State selection. Here are some more of Williams' accomplishments. The Comets from Snellville played against the Bears of Lawrenceville at the home of minor league baseball's Gwinnett Braves.
Coolray Field welcomed the top high school baseball teams in Gwinnett for a special showcase this weekend. On Friday afternoon, the South Gwinnett Comets faced off against the Mountain View Bears . It was a close game as the Comets beat the Bears by one run with a final score of 7-6. Be sure to watch the video of South Gwinnett Senior Drew McCarthy as he hits a triple in our photo and video gallery. The showcase continues Saturday as Providence Christian Academy High School takes on Duluth at 2p.m. Then at 4:30p.m., Collins Hill and Brookwood will face off. The final game will be between North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge.

Ten high school teams will compete on March 8-9, 2013.
Baseball will begin for 2013 this week at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, as 10 high school teams from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties will compete in a two-day, five-game event. South Gwinnett High School is one of the teams on the roster. On March 8-9, the South Gwinnett team will be joined by teams from Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Providence Christian, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge. Daquan Amir Miller, of Snellville, was arrested on charges of entering auto, possessing a firearm on school property, aggravated assault and violation of probation.
A Snellville man is accused of going onto school property and breaking into a vehicle, stealing a gun and pointing that weapon at a student, according to police. Daquan Amir Miller was arrested in early February on charges of entering auto, possessing a firearm on school property, aggravated assault and violation of probation. According to Sgt. Trey Downs of the Snellville Police Department, the incident occurred at South Gwinnett High School. Downs said that Miller broke into a vehicle that belonged to an ROTC instructor and stole a firearm from it.
