Enter the Snellville Scarecrow Contest and Win Cash

The city is holding a contest for the best scarecrows in town.

Snellville is looking for the best scarecrows in the city, and they're offering cash prizes for the top creations.

This is how it works: Citizens are encouraged to make their own scarecrows and display them in their businesses, schools, churches, homes and clubs. The city will then create a map of all the locations where the scarecrows are, and patrons are encouraged to visit those locations for voting.

Voting will run from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25. Contestants will then bring their creations to the Oct. 26th Snellville Fall Festival on Oct. 26. The winners will be announced there, and the scarecrows also will be auctioned off to the highest bidders.

The scarecrows will be judged on creativity and overall presentations. The top three winners will be presented each with a trophy and cash prizes. First place will win $100, second place will received $75 and $50 will be given to third place.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry.

Some important factors to note:

  • Contestants must register their scarecrows by Oct. 5 to ensure that they get on the map.
  • Scarecrows must be able to stand on their own.
  • Include a 3x5 card clearly marked with the scarecrow's name, your name and your business.
  • Delivery during the Snellville Fall Festival is to be made to the designated spot behind the stage at 10 a.m. Oct. 26.
