One man is dead following an afternoon home invasion in the unincorporated area of Snellville, according to Gwinnett County police.

Police have identifed the man as Marvin Tyus, 48. Cpl. Jake Smith said the apparent home invasion and shooting happened about 4:22 at 4695 Anderson-Livsey Lane. Tyus was shot once, police said.

After getting news of her husband's death, Tyus's wife screamed and fell to the ground. She could be seeing crouching on the front lawn and crying. Family and friends eventually arrived to be with her.

On Tuesday, police issued a press release regarding the incident. "At this time we are not releasing any information on witnesses or possible motives," Gwinnett County police said in the statement.

Tyus was home at the time, and he and his family were busy doing home repairs, which included replacing the doors on the home, Smith said. The suspects were able to enter the home through an unsecured storm door, he said.

Besides Tyus, there were other people in the home at the time, but police are not releasing information on who or how many people were there. It is unknown at this time whether the home was specifically targeted, Smith said.

According to Smith, the suspects left in a red passenger car possibly driven by a third person. Both men who entered the home were wearing black T-shirts, and one of the men had dreadlocks, police said.

Police initially said they were investigating the incident as a homicide and a robbery, but there were no details released early Tuesday about what, if anything, was taken from the home. According to the Tuesday press statement, Gwinnett County Police homicide detectives are investigating.

Anyone with information about the crime can reach Gwinnett Police detectives at 770-513-5300.
